Getting the sense of scale from wide-diameter shades like this one and its 18" sibling can be hard to do online. It's always wise to check the specifications of any shade (or fixture) before purchase.

That said, wide diameter shades generally "feel" best in rooms that are large and open or that have high ceilings. Kitchens, entrances, and commercial settings are good bets.
