The original early-1900s version of our 40W 1912 Squirrel Cage Tungsten Filament Bulb resulted in new lighting designs -- like semi-indirect bowl chandeliers, which directed and reflected the innovation's power and intensity.

Tip: Install upright or upside down. Bulb can fail if pointed horizontally or at an angle.

Carbon-filament light bulbs debuted in the 1890s and lit the way until 1912, when bright and powerful tungsten-filament bulbs transformed the industry.

Painted bulbs, introduced in the 1920s, added a decorative touch to tungsten bulbs and the exposed-bulb fixtures popular at the time.
