Using low-wattage bulbs in Gas-Style shades not only saves electricity, it also highlights their stencil designs and produces a more historically accurate (i.e., warm and dim) amount of light for Gas-Style fixtures.

For combination Gas & Electric fixtures like the Curtis, it's acceptable for the gas portion - always the up light - to be dimmer than the electric portion. Try 25 watt bulbs for an authentic look, and pair this shade with its matching companion on other Gas & Electric ceiling and wall fixtures.
