This petite double towel bar with vertical screw positions works well where bathroom hardware must connect with wall studs.

For a secure hold on a 16" on-center stud bay, use a pipe cutter to shorten the 18" rod, and fasten the brackets. If stud locations are a mystery, screw a section of plain wood moulding horizontally across the wall, and attach the towel bar to the wood.

You can also use this solution to create rows of hooks in bathrooms, kitchens, mudrooms, and entries.
