The American Arts & Crafts movement was built around flat and abstract imagery combined with rectilinear forms - qualities also associated with Craftsman and Mission designs. With its form and function in harmony, the Cornell was a popular turn-of-the-century light.

Some Arts & Crafts fixtures have bottom heavy designs suspended from a single, slender pole; the Cornell, however, is relatively short and lean.
