Iconic Hourglass Collection Takes Off

Rejuvenation Releases Four New Mid-Century Modern Inspired Lights.

PORTLAND, Ore. February 2, 2010 - Hourglass shaped lights of the Mid-Century era were among the most popular and iconic designs of the period. Rejuvenation proudly introduces its Hourglass Collection as a striking addition to the company's popular Mid-Century line. The collection includes two chandeliers, the large scale Galaxy and smaller Asterix, and two wall sconces, the twin light Vektr and single light Spektr.

Fresh and futuristic, these handcrafted aluminum fixtures are an elegant addition to a wide array of interiors. Their iconic status stems from widespread use in the 1950's and 1960's in commercial settings: hotels, office buildings and even churches, making them easily recognizable to enthusiasts and those who lived through the era. Today the sleek and streamlined profiles add a certain retro charm to both commercial and residential interiors.

Each light in the collection can be customized to suit the needs of the space it illuminates. Customers can choose from four classically modern finishes: Brushed Aluminum, Bronzetone, Black Enamel or White Enamel. The Galaxy and Asterix chandeliers can be further customized by specifying length and two, three, four or five arms. Upgrade from incandescent bulbs to the energy efficient GU24 compact fluorescent option at no additional charge.

The two chandeliers have three-way switch that controls how the light is cast; they can be set to throw light exclusively up or down, or in both directions for maximum light output. Small perforations in the cones produce a delightful starlight effect when lit. A special swivel joint is attached to the canopy, to accommodate for the sloped ceilings typical of mid-century homes, allowing the fixture to always hang straight.

"Our Hourglass Collection captures an expressive drama with a not-so subtle suggestion of rocket thrusters, and yet at the same time the simple forms, restrained detailing and modern materials convey the cool simplicity of the Modernist aesthetic," states Time Wetzel, Rejuvenation's lead industrial designer. "I think that dual personality is what makes these an appealing choice for a variety of uses."

Rejuvenation's historically accurate reproductions are inspired by the 1959 Stockholm series from EJS Lighting Corporation. In the 1950's and 1960's these lights were made from aluminum, as it was the high tech metal used by the burgeoning aerospace industry.
