Schoolhouse Lighting: A New Incarnation of a Classic Design

Faithful Reproductions of an Elegant Flush Mount Light and Shade

PORTLAND, Ore. February 3, 2010 - Rejuvenation proudly introduces two new flush-mount additions to its popular Schoolhouse collection: the Miles and its larger counterpart, the Davis. They achieve a simple elegance through clean lines, graceful curves and a dramatically flared base. When paired with the new shapely low profile schoolhouse shades they become a strikingly unique variation of the traditional schoolhouse style.

The sleek, unadorned surface of Miles and Davis is spun from a single disc of copper; the mounting screws are hidden to achieve unblemished simplicity. Aside from the value of the dramatic styling, shallow dimensions make these fixtures an excellent candidate for lighting spaces with low ceiling heights, especially when married with the hand-blown, opal glass low-profile shade. Available in 4" and 6" fitters they pair nicely with several other schoolhouse shades in the Rejuvenation product line.

Made to order, each light is hand finished in one of Rejuvenation's twelve standard finishes or brushed or polished copper. Energy conscience consumers can select a hardwired compact fluorescent GU24 option at no additional cost. These lights are suitable for any room in the home and versatile enough to light commercial spaces large and small.

Product Manager, Tony Penca discovered the original fixture that lead to the production of the Miles and Davis. "Literally hundreds of fixtures come through our restoration department each year, but this fixture clearly stood apart from the rest with its clean, simple and striking profile. The lines of the fixture and shade take schoolhouse style in a completely new direction without losing its ties to its classic predecessors."

About Schoolhouse Style Lights

Back in the 1920s the dim light output by carbon filament bulbs was replaced by a brighter tungsten bulb. Opal glass shades were introduced to eliminate glare and project a warm even light anywhere good functional light was needed. Widely used in public settings like classrooms and courtrooms, they were also used frequently in domestic settings such as kitchens or hallways.
