Large Flush-Mount Schoolhouse Fixture

For the Davis (and its little brother, the Miles), the main attraction lies in the dramatic flare of its one-piece spun-copper base, which presents a strikingly different profile than our other period flush-mount lights. The wide profiles cover up unsightly ceiling installation sins of the past, and when paired with our new flatter schoolhouse shades, as shown, these fixtures shave a few inches off of overall length for rooms with low ceilings. Based on an original design we found, the Miles and Davis offer a fresh, low-profile take on schoolhouse-style lighting. We attempted to reproduce it in brass—only to learn the hard way why the original fixture was spun in copper (copper is more elastic, and allowed the spinning to move more metal). The end result was definitely worth the effort.
