Early Eclectic Lighting:
Late Victorian Style
Late Bloomers
Era: 1890 - 1920
Related Styles: Artistic, Colonial
The late 1800s through 1910 saw phenomenal changes, including a major depression, a cultural shift from Victorian to "modern" sensibilities, several historic revival movements, and the widespread acceptance of electricity in the home.
A huge step forward for lighting design and manufacturing, this new technology resulted in an eclectic and fascinating mix of styles and influences hard to categorize, but distinctly decorative in nature.
Popular well into the "new" century, Sears was still selling Late Victorian lighting and hardware in 1920.
