Cold Calling

Before the advent of aluminum and vinyl, exterior storm windows and screens were wooden-framed, and held in place by hangers and turnbuttons.

Old-fashioned storm window hardware still provides a reliable, relatively inexpensive buffer between the outdoors and the indoors, and it complements traditional architecture.

Install wooden storm window frames using galvanized steel Storm Window Hangers, and secure storm frames to jambs with brass Turnbuttons. On the inside, use a basic hook & eye (from your local hardware store) to affix each frame to its jamb.
