Mounted Alaskan Red King Crab Specimen Item # F1150

Circa 1940s

This creature of the sea comes to us from the oldest family owned restaurant in Portland, the Dan and Louis Oyster Bar. The Oyster Bar was first founded in 1907 and by the 1920's was a favorite haunt of Portland journalists. Mounted in a hand-made shadow box, this enormous Alaskan Red King Crab (Paralithodes camtschaticus) has an arm span of over three feet. It's easy to imagine him greeting customers for decades as they entered the legendary bar. Today, the crab stands as a fantastically preserved natural specimen and an icon of Northwest seafood cuisine.

  • Historical Style: Mid-Century
