Woodmen of the World Ceremonial Axe Item # F1504

Circa 1910s

Many American fraternal orders started out as make-do insurance companies, promising that when members of the order passed away, their families would always be protected. Omaha, Nebraska's Woodmen of the World made that goal official, by transitioning from community organization to large-scale insurance company in 1912. This ceremonial axe dates from the early life of the order and is made completely out of wood, blade and all. A rare piece of fraternal history and a must-have for any Folk Art collection.
