Petite Navajo Crystal Rug with Spirit Pathway Item # F1735

Circa 1970 | 22" x 33"

Beautifully woven in tones of black, white, gray and brown, this late-century Navajo rug features a variation on the Water Bug Storm pattern, which is usually tied to the Crystal Trading Post out of New Mexico. Note the peculiar line in the weaving in the upper right. This anomaly is deliberately woven in by the craftsperson, and called a ch’ihónít’i in Diné bizaad, the Navajo language. Often translated as 'spirit line' or 'pathway', this special detail has a fascinating history, and is interpreted many ways. This is a treasured feature, distinctive to Navajo weavings.

* 22" x 33"
* Historical Style: Traditional
* Condition Notes: Wonderful original condition, with vibrant colors and intact fibers.
