Traditional Kyrgyz Rug in Red and True Indigo Blue Item # F1775

Circa 1900 | 59" x 120"

Hailing from the Middle East, Central Asia, and modern-day Turkey, our collection of antique Turkish Anatolian kilim, flat-woven and hand-knotted rugs bears the telltale signs of a unique journey. Much more than ordinary floor coverings, these rugs may present themselves as a dowry of a bride, cradle of a baby, wall decor in a farmhouse, or grain bag of a villager. Unique to each region and village, the weaving materials, techniques, colors, patterns, and textures are aesthetic expressions that reflect the art, craft, and culture of Anatolian pastoral and nomadic life.

* 59" x 120"
* Historical Style: Traditional
* Hand made by nomadic Kyrgyz people, these rugs are very rare. This superb rug has been in a private collection for 25 years, and is truly magnificent. The wool is thick and soft, the weave very fine, and the rich naturally dyed indigo blue is exceptionally desirable. Note the beautiful asymmetry as the pattern shifts on one end of the rug, emphasizing the handmade qualities of the design. Truly a work of art.
* Condition Notes: Nicely preserved original condition, with some wear in the wool, showing the cotton warp below.
