Pair of Lathe Turned Redwood Burl Vases, Date Unknown Item # F1996
You can find these remarkable burl vases where folk art meets factory, where primitive meets industrial. We found them filled with old car parts in an abandoned auto shop. There's something impressive about these vases, and it's not just their size (33" tall). They are polished to perfection, perfectly turned out of what must have been a huge redwood burl by a master craftsman, with curvaceous yet sturdy lines. While we don't know their exact age, the wood that they're made from hasn't been readily available for at least 60 years. It's likely that they were made in the 1950s at the latest, though their style suggests an even earlier aesthetic. We could imagine them flanking a fireplace, or at the entrance to your home. However you use them, they are sure to make a statement.
Condition notes: A few cracks and chips in the wood show the age of these vases, but these do not detract from the stability or character of the pieces.
