Early Royal Typewriters Illuminated Sign Item # F4001

Circa 1915

Classic and wonderfully weathered, this very early Royal Typewriters illuminated advertisement sign would once have hung in the window of a trusted Royal retailer. Produced by Robinson & Company, this "Colorglow" sign features a steel body (somewhat decorated by stamped ornate details on each corner), framing a two-toned glass panel. The Colorglow sign collection offered a simple, yet effective technology: an opaque silver-painted top coat, paired with a vibrantly-painted back coat. As you can see, the bright red lettering glows brightly and proudly.

The Royal Typewriters sign shown here has a red-painted back coat, which has chipped and faded over the years. In order to maintain the bright red glow, we outfitted this sign with three red bulbs, but take a look at the fifth photo to see the imperfections are illuminated with traditional, clear bulbs. Both red and clear bulbs are included.

  • Historical Style: Industrial
  • Condition notes: Fully rewired and outfitted with a 24'' long pull chain. The steel body has been reenforced and the sign is ready to hang right out of the box. There is some rust on the steel body of the sign, which has been clear coated to prevent continued aging. Overall, the piece has been stabilized and any wear is commensurate with age.
