Kirkman's Soap Crate Item # F4602

Circa 1950s

This wonderfully stenciled pine crate would have held 100 cakes of Kirkman brand borax soap. Each cake was wrapped in a screen-printed coupon, which would go toward your next order of Kirkman soap. Hence the slogan "Save the Coupons!" After its life as a soap box, this crate was put to use storing an enormous collection of the Clinton Daily Democrat, a Clinton, MO newspaper that still runs today. The collector stored nearly five decades of the Daily Democrat in Kirkman crates, carefully labeling each box with the dates of the papers within. Today, these crates continue to be wonderful storage options, even serving as bedside, end or coffee tables.

  • Historical Style: Industrial
  • Condition notes: Nice vintage condition. A little wear in the wood and label, but all commensurate with age.
