Large Tri-Colored Neon EAT Sign Item # F4766
Once in a blue moon we come across a neon sign with with multiple neon colors and we get very excited. This holy grail of vintage signs proudly advertises EAT for the no-nonsense blue-collar joe, instantly evoking an entire vanished era in that one brief word. This sign has three different colors of neon: yellow, pink (!) and red. We estimate it dates from the late 1930s or early 1940s, and were told it hailed from an eatery in Nashville, Tennessee.
The yellow tube on this sign is made from an extremely rare glass, that has not been available to sign-makers for many decades. Finish and construction are all in place, but we've restored the neon to full glory so that it will glow for many more years to come. Two steel flanges emerge from the side of the white and mint-green painted metal box, so that this sign can hang from a wall or stand on a ledge.
- Historical Style: Mid-Century Modern
- Condition Notes: The peripheral tubes (the yellow and pink) are original, but the red EAT letters have been newly bent. There is a new transformer and new 8' black nylon cord.
