Rocket Ship Gumball Dispenser By Northwestern Vending Item # F4968
Piggy-backing on the mid-century Space Craze, the Northwestern Vending Corporation released several celestially themed vending and arcade machines. This edition, the Moon Rocket, was one of their earliest models in the aerial category, as they later debuted the Saturn 5000 and the Northwestern Jet. The Moon Rocket was first released in 1959. It was coin operated and specially designed to vend gumballs.
We are over the moon about this vending machine. It features barely-there decals on the body and cone, reading "Hey Kids! Blast Off!" Originally, the machine charged only a penny a turn, triggering the five lights along the body of the rocket to "count down", until a tiny plastic Saturn I-style rocket took off along a cable, causing a giant gumball to be dispensed below. A fantastic relic of a bygone era, this rocket carries with it gorgeous patina and plenty of mid-century nostalgia.
