Copper Lion's Head Architectural Remnant Item # F5413

Circa 1910

$950.00

It is easy to imagine this roaring lion's head in its original setting: as the focal point of an ornate cornice, embellishing the roofline of a prominent Revival-style building. This lion would likely have been one of many along the cornice and was probably cut out around his mane, which would have flowed into a scene of acanthus leaves, festoons or other Classical motifs.

Made of copper, this architectural remnant was created using the repousse method of metal working – by hammering and forming it from the inside out. While the form and composition and stunning, we also love the perfectly worn finish, which helps to highlight the lion's 100 + years of life.

  • Historical Style: Classical Revival
  • Condition notes: Worn vintage condition (but very stable), laden with history and character. Please review all photos to see spots of wear and signs of age, which come mostly in the form of variation in the copper's patina.
