Exquisitely Worn Mobile Gas Pegasus C1940 Item # F5471
41" W x 27" H
As one of the most iconic and recognizable company emblems in United States history, the Mobil Gas Pegasus has served as the guardian to many American roadways and rest stops. This astonishing porcelain sign dates from the late 1930s, when Mobil was distributing signs so ornate and delicate the tails had to be reinforced with an extra steel band (see third photo).
The particularly raw and weathered condition of this rare earlier version of the iconic pegasus is worth noting - this is a truly unique piece. While this sign does shine brightly with its original porcelain enamel, the many chips in the surface reveal the steel metal underneath, though this only serves to add to the character and authenticity of this barn-fresh piece.
Condition notes: All original enamel with plenty of chips in various locations (see second photo for details).
- Historical Style: Industrial
