Rare Double-Sided Federal Electric Company DRUGS Sign Item # F5487
We took special care in restoring this incredible early-century pharmacy DRUGS sign. Always fans of porcelain enamel, we are fascinated by the ornate blue and white frame and the 18" tall pressed enamel letters, each of which is adorned by a set of light bulbs so that this sign glows from afar. Measuring over seven feet long, this monumental sign is more than a statement piece, it's a fully functional work of art and a standout piece of retail signage history. Did we mention that it's double sided?
Made by the Federal Electric Sign Company of Chicago, Ill., these unique electrically illuminated signs were first patented in 1903 by inventor and company proprietor J. H. Goehst. The formula for producing these illuminated signs was brilliant: each letter was pre-made and could be applied to any word as needed so any sign or any size was possible. The letters and original sockets are stamped with "F.E. Co. Chicago." A handful of the sockets have been replaced and the sign is rewired with an eight-foot black nylon cord.
This piece ships by Curbside Delivery. Upon placing your order you will be contacted by a customer service associate to discuss delivery time and details as they pertain to this one-of-a-kind item.
