Fantastic Detective Agency Sign Item # F5697

Circa 1930

We are obsessed with this fantastic sign, which features decal-transferred stencils in black and gold. The format and composition aside, this charming sign represents Floyd Rink's Golden Rule, a detective agency that promises a response to your inquiry "day or night." A flange sign like this would have been wall-mounted and enjoyed from both sides.

A note on date: It's difficult to date this sign conclusively. It could be as early as 1920s, or perhaps as late as the '40s. Typically from the 1930s into the '50s, the format for telephone numbers was most commonly two letters followed by five numbers (Pennsylvania 6-5000, for example). The fact that this sign has four numbers only, with no letter prefix, leads us to believe it is earlier rather than later.

  • Historical Style: Mid-Century
  • Condition notes: Very nice vintage condition. Minimal wear on the finish.
