Table Top Souvenir Totem Pole Item # F5699

Circa 1960s

Bright and graphic, this table-top souvenir is exemplary of totem pole art from the Northwest coast and Alaska. The totem features figural carvings of Eagle and Man characters, each of which has been painted with red, blue, yellow and brown.

In both the mid 19th and 20th centuries Native American culture and art became a fascination for those that had previously (and continuously) been their oppressors. During the second wave of that trend, the colorful and graphic nature of Native American pattern enjoyed a particular vogue, because those elements played into the style of the 1950's and '60's. This souvenir totem is a standout of "western" and "native" styles that became hallmarks of that period.

  • Historical Style: Mid-Century
  • Condition notes: Nice vintage condition, with wear in the wood and paint. See all photos for details.
