Tall Bel Geddes-Style Dresser w/ Saucer Knobs Item # F6896
The Simmons Manufacturing Company was best known for making durable and fireproof pressed steel furnishings in the most popular styles of the day. This example likely hails from their streamlined series, which was designed by Norman Bel Geddes and produced in Simmons' Wisconsin factory. The steel furniture lines were designed to occupy hospitals and, if they ever survive to today, rarely maintain their original finish. This Deco-style dresser has been striped to reveal the raw steel below and still maintains its original brass-toned disk knobs, which we find cheerful, for some inexplicable reason.
- Historical Style: Streamline
- Condition notes: Some age in the raw steel, which has been clear-coated to maintain its smooth finish. The top features a few dints and dings, which can be seen in the detail photos.
