Exceptional Red Mesa Navajo Rug Item # F8426

Circa 1930s | 47" x 79"

This gorgeous Navajo rug features the Red Mesa repeating diamond motif, bordered with zigzag patterns. Red Mesa was a trading post in Arizona, and the rugs from this outfit were known for their precision and intricacy.

Truly a unique piece, this rug has an fascinating restoration history. The rug previously had some damaged areas - small holes and some edge fraying. Given the extremely high quality of the weaving, the collector who previously owned it wanted a superb restoration. Working with an Iraqi rug dealer, they actually flew the rug to Iraq for repair by a master weaver. The repairs are so well done, and the yarn colors match so closely, that the repairs are extremely difficult to see in person.

This masterful weaving features distinctive diagonal 'terminal' lines, and the handspun character of the yarns is especially evident in the lovely variegation of the naturally dyed gray and black.

* 47" x 79"
* Historical Style: Traditional
* Condition Notes: Restored. Some edges and some small holes in this rug were rewoven to restore damage.
