Vintage Muted Kula Rug Item # F9539

Circa 1900 | 59" x 113"

Hailing from the Middle East, Central Asia, and modern-day Turkey, our collection of antique Turkish Anatolian kilim, flat-woven and hand-knotted rugs bears the telltale signs of a unique journey. Much more than ordinary floor coverings, these rugs may present themselves as a dowry of a bride, cradle of a baby, wall decor in a farmhouse, or grain bag of a villager. Unique to each region and village, the weaving materials, techniques, colors, patterns, and textures are aesthetic expressions that reflect the art, craft, and culture of Anatolian pastoral and nomadic life.

Kula rugs were known for their unique color combinations, and this remarkable piece is a testament to that. Bright reds are offset by black, blue and brown outlines, dotted with white and yellow accent marks – all made from hand-spun wool with natural dyes.

* 59" x 113"
