Hoffman Bentwood Caned Stool by Thonet Item # F9578

Circa 1965

After centuries of heavy, hand-carved furnishings, Michael Thonet’s light-weight, mass-produced chairs were greeted with open arms, beloved for their simple, functional design. This simple stool, originally designed by Josef Hoffman in 1925, was made in Soviet-era Czech Republic by Thonet and distributed by Loewenstein Inc (an American mid-century commercial furniture distributer). They feature a smooth, matte black ebonized wood finish and caned seats, typical of this style of bentwood furniture.

  • Historical Style: Mid-Century
  • Condition Notes: Nice condition – very little wear in the wood or finish.
