COLONIAL REVIVAL BEADED OVAL DOOR SET Item # G1174
Simple yet decorative Colonial Revival door hardware like this beaded oval design was used in countless bungalows, foursquares and Dutch Colonials from the turn of the century well into the 1920s, regardless of the style of the house. Though these particular sets show the authentic wear of a century of use, they retain traces of their original finish - a finish known as mottled or oxidized copper that was common between 1900 and 1920, yet remains poorly understood today. Consisting of bold patterns of relieved copper highlight on a darkly antiqued background, the finish was especially popular on less expensive materials like cast iron and steel to enrich and romanticize their look. It was used on lighting, hardware, and even furniture to convey a rugged and exotic character that was unique to the time period.
Notes: Finish varies from set to set Historical Style: Colonial Revival
