Dard Hunter Iris Doormat Item # E0357
This iris welcome mat is based on a 1906 Dard Hunter design for the book Justinian and Theodora. Ohio-born Hunter was an artist in the Arts & Crafts movement who designed books, metal, glass, and leather. He was the first man to produce a book he printed himself on paper he made (at the time, all handmade paper came from Europe) at a mill he built, using a typeface he designed, cut, and cast himself.
Coir, from which this mat is made, is extracted from coconut husks. This durable, water-resistant material has been in use since at least the 11th century, when ancient mariners traveled the seas with coir ropes and rigging.
- Made from natural coir with a heavy rubber backing
