Rare Perforated Porcelain Pendant, c1969 Item # R2145
This late 1960s light charmingly combines the geometric with the organic: the punched holes form what are likely, given the flower power in the air at the time, highly stylized flowers. The precise shape indicates its been made in a slipcast mold rather than thrown on the pottery wheel, but the fact that it's clay in the first place gives it an earthy feel.
While small starlight pinpricks were all the rage in the 1950s and early 1960s, this evolution into larger and more varied holes is fun – they both obscure and reveal the light, creating a more dramatic dance of light on the walls and ceilings that prefigures the coming disco age.
- Notes: Canopy is new
- Historical Style: Mid-Century
