Large & Uncommon 5-Light Commercial Chandelier, c1910 Item # R2482
Large and simple multi-arm fixtures using carbon-filament light bulbs like this one were extremely common in commercial and institutional settings between 1900 and 1910 - but most were replaced in the decades that followed the introduction of the newer - and much brighter - tungsten-filament bulb. Rendered obsolete and out-of-style, such elegant early electric fixtures were frequently scrapped and forgotten. This lovely specimen survives to remind us of the days before "schoolhouse" lights and fluorescent fixtures took over our stores, schools, factories and warehouses. We've honored this survivor with a lovely set of pearl opalescent shades. Their delicate translucency shows off the carbon-filament bulbs which were typical of the period.
- Historical Style: Classic/ Commercial
- Notes: Note dent in body shown in 3rd photo
