Mid-Century Pendant W/ Perforated Shade by Lightolier Item # R3938
Likely distributed as part of Lightolier's commercial line, this Bowtie Pendant features some of our favorite mid-century modern motifs and a few elements that made Lightolier the lighting powerhouse of the day. The dual-cone shade (often called a "bowtie") is featured here in period appropriate white and brushed silver, allowing the light to glow through the finely perforated body of the interior shade. It is quite possible that beloved designer Gerald Thurston, who helmed Lightolier's design team in the 1950's and 1960's, would have had a hand in the conception of this unique piece. It bears several of his hallmarks, including the inverted, bell-shaped shade, the high-waisted collar and, of course, the perforated body.
Originally, this pendant was wired to accommodate up to 200 watts of light, promising a powerful, yet ambient glow, thanks to the trendy perforations. Today, we've modified the fixture so that a normal bulb will do the trick, bringing this handsome mid-century pendant into the present day with plenty of life and light left to share.
- Historical Style: Mid-Century Modern
