Transitional Gas/Electric Pendant W/ Silver Plating Item # R4365
Transitional lights are some of our favorites. This handsome two-light pendant was once outfitted with a pair of gas-fueled lights above and two electrically-powered lights below. Today, the gas lights have been disconnected and the electrical ones fully restored. We left the gas cocks to show the history of the piece, demonstrating how far it has come.
Small two-light oval pan pendants like this example were "bread-and-butter" fixtures suitable for a wide range of rooms. The Colonial Revival borrowed heavily from Classical Revival motifs like the bay leaf pattern on the pan of this fixture, and its timeless and classic look is enhanced by the delicately molded opal shades. All of the design elements are enhanced by the original silver-plating, which, despite being worn and weathered in all the right places, still shines are brightly as it did 100 years ago. This fixture might have hung in an entry, a stairway, a breakfast nook, or a bedroom.
- Historical Style: Classical Revival
- Notes: Silver plating is worn, but lovely nonetheless
