Salvaged Honeycomb Ponderosa Pine Shelving Item # C0358
12" x 3' board
Our Salvaged Honeycomb Ponderosa Pine 12" x 3' Shelving is made by hand in Portland, Ore., of reclaimed wood from Pacific Northwest barns. The wood was among the most common species available when barns were constructed in the 1800s and early 1900s. The barns were taken apart by hand with all nails removed. The wood was then planed and joined to make lovely, rustic shelves that last a lifetime. True history is visible in the wood, as sawmill marks and oxidized nail holes remain.
The Honeycomb Pine (named for its black and gold patina, along with the wax honeycomb found on some of the boards) is actually Ponderosa pine from Oregon barns owned by four generations of the Kuhl family. Hank Kuhl, now in his 60s, is the last family member to work the farm. Hank and his wife, KJ, have been helping deconstruct the buildings. The original barn was one of three livery stables in Prairie City. The barn was moved to Indian Creek midcentury and used primarily for horses, pigs, and dairy cows until the 1970s.
