Petite Panorama of Native Americans by Henry C. Chaufty Item # F1295

Circa 1909

Framed in simple beaded moulding, this remarkable picture depicts a gathering of Native American men in full regalia. Eagle feathers, beaded adornments and leather tunics are all proudly worn and captured in this photograph. The date of this historic Oklahoma photo is significant - 1909 was just two years after the Oklahoma Territory was merged with the Indian Territory to form the State of Oklahoma, which joined the Union in 1907. A scroll was painted onto the photo (or perhaps the negative), announcing that this image was taken by Henry C. Chaufty, an early-century photographer who studied Native American life, particularly the Cheyenne Tribe.

  • Historical Style: Traditional
  • Condition Notes: Some wear in the original wood and finish of the frame.
