Remarkable Wood and Glass Chinese Pendant W/ Tassels C1910 Item # R8018
Many are unaware that lighting during the early peak years of the Arts & Crafts trend was in fact a lot more varied, quirky and exploratory than the all-too-familiar square Mission fixtures and hammered Craftsman lanterns we see so frequently today. Diverse historical influences such as Dutch, Medieval, Native American and Asian inspired the best designers, and there are some great - and rare - fixtures out there, ripe for rediscovery.
This stunning relic is made entirely of frosted glass panels, framed in ornately carved mahogany. Each of the panels features a hand-painted scene of flowering countryside, lovely birds, or women in traditional kimonos. The top tier boasts stylized dragons at each of the six corners, each of whom holds cascading red tassels from their gaping maws. This remarkable pendant is an early-century tour de force, the likes of which is rarely seen today.
- Notes: Repairs have been made to the wood and the canopy was made to match the finish of the fixture
- Missing its center tassel
