This reproduction piece features original artwork by Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita from 1916. Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita worked as a graphic artist before World War II. During the war, Samuel and his wife were tragically persecuted for their religion, and were killed at Auschwitz. After the war, a friend of the couple, M.C. Escher, was able to recover Jessurun de Mesquita's works to be preserved.
